Daily Itinerary
Please note that the daily itinerary is subject to change.
The official dates for the Las Llamadas parade are typically announced mid-October. If necessary, we will adjust the itinerary to ensure attendance at this special event.
Day 1 (Mon, February 1) - Arrival to Montevideo
For those arriving into Montevideo, we will greet you at the airport and provide transportation to your hotel in Montevideo.
Day 2 (Tues, February 2) - Montevideo & Sea Goddess Ceremony
Explore the highlights of Montevideo on a relaxed half-day tour featuring the historic Ciudad Vieja, the Rambla waterfront, local markets, parks, architecture, and insight into Uruguay’s culture and daily life.
In the evening, you will have the option to attend celebrations honoring Iemanjá, the Goddess of the Sea, a tradition rooted in the Umbanda religion. Worshippers, dressed in white, gather at the beach to offer flowers, candles, and small boats filled with gifts to the ocean. Some dance in circles until they enter a trance, honoring Iemanjá as the protector of fishermen and the spirit of moonlight.
Day 3 (Wed, February 3) - Colonia del Sacramento
City tour of Colonia del Sacramento, a UNESCO Heritage Site.
Discover the captivating blend of Portuguese and Spanish colonial architecture as you wander the cobbled streets of Colonia del Sacramento. Immerse yourself in its rich history and scenic beauty, from the iconic lighthouse to the charming riverside promenade.
You will have the rest of the afternoon to explore on your own.
Day 4 (Thurs, February 4) - Carmelo Wine Region & Countryside Experience
Journey to the Carmelo wine region, an area known for its rolling vineyards, slower pace of life, and strong European heritage. Winery visits in Carmelo are more like long social visits than the quick tastings of larger wineries around the world.
Enjoy a leisurely lunch and wine tasting at a family-owned winery, where you’ll meet the fifth-generation owners and gain insight into the traditions, as well as current wine making processes.
Later, experience authentic rural hospitality during a farm-to-table empanada cooking lesson, preparing traditional recipes with fresh local ingredients before sharing dinner together in a warm countryside setting.
Day 5 (Fri, February 5) - Carnaval Murga
Return to Montevideo.
In the evening, experience the vibrant spirit of Montevideo's Carnaval by attending a murga.
The murga, a traditional musical theater performance, takes center stage, captivating audiences with its blend of music, choreography, and satirical storytelling - an absolute must for anyone seeking an authentic and exhilarating cultural immersion! With their lively costumes and rhythmic beats, the murga troupes transport you into their world of social commentary, humor, and reflection on current events - a truly unique aspect of the cultural experience of Carnaval.
Day 6 (Sat, February 6) - Authentic Traditional Ranch
After breakfast we will travel to a 1,000-hectare authentic working ranch, where guests can engage in the daily rhythms of rural life.
While at the ranch, there are countless ways to connect with the land:
- horseback rides
- birdwatching
- sky gazing
After an active day, cool off in the fresh swimming pool.
You can choose to have hands-on farm experiences or to simply enjoy the tranquility of Uruguay’s rural heartland.
Day 7 (Sun, February 7) - Estancia & Punta del Diablo
Take advantage of the morning for horseback riding or bird watching.
After a delicious lunch, we will say good-bye to our new friends at the ranch, and continue our journey to bohemian Punta del Diablo.
Day 8 (Mon, February 8) - Santa Teresa Fortress & National Park
Santa Teresa National Park covers an area of approximately 3,200 hectares and is home to species from all continents, around 2 millions of plants and trees, and large gardens perfectly delimited by boxwood and cypresses. It is one of the Parks created by humanity, which combines beauty and tranquillity. We will visit key points of interest in the park including the conservatory, the rose garden, a semi-natural pool that is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including native and exotic animals that wander freely.
Fortaleza de Santa Teresa is a military fortification built in 1762 by the Portuguese that lies within the Santa Teresa National Park. The walls of the fortress were built of a double stone wall of masonry and the space between was filled with soil and rubble to resist the vibrations of enemy artillery. Within this monument you can feel centuries of history.

Day 9 (Tues, February 9) - Cabo Polonio
If you want to truly get off the grid, Cabo Polonio is perhaps the country’s most desirable spot. Without roads or electricity and only a few dozen year-round residents, Cabo Polonio is located within a nature reserve and the place to go for a real escape from civilization.
Cabo Polonio is home to the largest colony of sea lions in the world. While in Cabo Polonio, you are invited to deconnect, and to reconnect with yourself. Enjoy the beach and lunch or a refreshment at an open-air restaurant, appreciate the artistically painted houses, watch the large colony of sea lions resting on the rocks, or climb to the top of the 120-year-old lighthouse to witness the view of the sea and the surrounding dunes.
Day 10 (Wed, February 10) - Jose Ignacio, Art Museum & Sculpture Garden
Free day to explore Jose Ignacio.
A fishing village turned upscale resort, José Ignacio is less than a square mile and is one of the most cosmopolitan corners of Uruguay, drawing wealthy visitors and celebrities to its beaches.
Spend the morning at leisure, strolling through the town's quaint streets, visiting local artisans near the iconic lighthouse, and soaking in the relaxed coastal atmosphere. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the town's renowned eateries, such as La Huella, a reknown beachfront restaurant specializing in fresh seafood, wood-fired specialties, and offering vibrant ambiance; we can assist with advance reservations to ensure you have the best experience.
In the afternoon, we will take those interested in museums to visit the Atchugarry Museum of Contemporary Art (MACA), Uruguay's first contemporary art museum. Set amidst a stunning natural landscape, the museum features striking architecture, thought-provoking exhibits by international and Latin American artists, and walking paths through a sculpture park where art and nature seamlessly blend. After immersing yourself in modern art, continue to the Museo del Mar in La Barra. This fascinating museum offers an in-depth exploration of marine life, showcasing over 5,000 specimens, including whale skeletons, seashell collections, and engaging exhibits on maritime history and legendary pirates.
Day 11 (Thurs, February 11) - Punta del Este & Casapueblo
Punta del Este is a beach resort town in Uruguay complete with casinos, beaches, yachts and lots of tourists from all over the world. Our city tour of Punta del Este will take us to the exact pint where the river turns into ocean, the most famous beaches of Punta, the lighthouse, the unique Lionel Viera wavy bridge, and of course, the iconic fingers in the sand!
Considered the highest cultural and architectural reference in Uruguay, Casapueblo is the greatest architectural work of artist Carlos Páez Vilaró, who modeled it with his own hands for more than forty years. Its rooms exhibit paintings, ceramics and sculptures made in different stages of the artists development.
Every sunset, “The Ceremony in the sun” takes place. It is the finishing touch to the afternoon and consists of a recording with the artist's voice narrating a poem to his oldest friend, the sun. Join others on the terrace during the sun ceremony for about 10-15 minutes of silence, reflection and gratitude. This experience has become a kind of ecumenical mass, not to be missed and very emotional.
Day 12 (Fri, February 12) - Montevideo & Carnaval Parade
Today your will have free time to explore Montevideo.
For those interested, in the afternoon your tour leader will accompany the group to some more of our favorite sites in Ciudad Vieja: Andes 1972 Museum, Museo del Gaucho y de la Moneda, and a Guided tour of Teatro Solis.
You may want to rest for a bit in the afternoon, as the Carnaval Parade starts around 8pm and lasts well past midnight.
In the evening, we will attend the Carnaval parade. Las Llamadas parade features "comparsas," which are groups of drummers, dancers, and singers.
Uruguayan Carnival has its roots in African traditions brought to Uruguay by slaves in the 19th century. Over time, it evolved into a major cultural celebration with a blend of African, Uruguayan, and other influences.
The Llamadas is not just a parade, but a lively street party. A family event, spectators of all ages join in the festivities, dancing alongside the comparsas, enjoying the music, and immersing themselves in the vibrant atmosphere. Carnival fosters a sense of unity and pride among the participants and the wider community. It is a moment for people of all backgrounds to come together, celebrate diversity, and appreciate the cultural richness of Uruguay.
Day 13 (Sat, February 13) - Montevideo & Farewell Dinner
*Attendance at the Las Llamadas parade is planned for Saturday evening in the event that Friday's festivities are postponed due to rain.*
